This documentation set outlines a sophisticated autonomous charging framework created for mobile robots operating in educational settings, research laboratories, and autonomous navigation projects. The system is built around two coordinated components: a groundlevel charging station and a robotmounted charging module. Working together through an infraredguided docking process, the two units ensure precise alignment and dependable energy transfer. The architecture supports both 12V and 24V electrical systems, making it suitable for a broad range of robotic platforms, including the R550 and R550 PLUS series, mecanumwheel robots, fourwheeldrive configurations, differential drive bases, and Ackermannsteering vehicles.

To accommodate different battery types, the system is available in two connector options:

  • Tplug with DC5.52.5 for 12volt platforms

  • XT60 with DC4.01.7 for 24volt platforms

Each kit is supplied with preassembled charging and power cables, a TypeC data cable, mounting brackets, and multistandard DC adapters (552140175525). The charging station is engineered to handle up to 25.55V and 3A, and is controlled by an STM32F103C8T6 microcontroller paired with infrared transmitters and receivers for accurate docking detection. The onboard charging module communicates with the robots control system via a CAN interface.

All circuit diagrams, firmware packages, and source code are openly available, enabling developers to modify the system in C and integrate the charging workflow into their own navigation logic. ROS1 and ROS2 SDKs are included, allowing robots to identify the chargers location on a map, generate autonomous docking paths, and avoid obstacles during the approach.

Mechanical specifications are provided for both the charging station (19280142 mm, 1.58 kg) and the onboard module (13234.5100 mm, 0.58 kg), including mounting hole layouts for easy installation. Integrated shortcircuit protection and extensive endurance testing ensure safe and stable operation during longterm autonomous missions.

This charging solution is ideal for educational robotics, researchgrade mobile platforms, and outdoor autonomous vehicles that require continuous operation with minimal human oversight.
